We are back for another week and there is a lot to talk about, as per usual. So where should we start.
Lets start with the NRL and by now you should all know I’m a bit of a Melbourne Storm supporter and well I think you know where I am going with this now. Sunday afternoon we got to witness the Melbourne Storm get their season back on track as they gave the Canberra Raiders an absolute beating in Canberra! The Raiders haven’t lost a game on their home ground since last year, but the Storm decided they were due for a loss and they beat them 68 to 4. The Storm will face the competition favourites the South Sydney Rabbitohs at home this Friday night. Lets hope their form can continue.
Lets swap codes and on the weekend the Super Rugby Grand Final was held over in New Zealand as the Chiefs took on the Brumbies. It was a very close match and pretty much the whole of Australia was behind the Brumbies and we would have loved to have seen the Brumbies get up and beat the Chiefs, but unfortunately the Chiefs were just too strong in the end and came away with the win and are the champions once again. So let’s just leave it at that, you’ll get’em next year Brumbies.
Ok now to the Cricket and the Poms have retained the Ashes due to their messed up weather. The Aussies were actually looking really good and they looked like they were going to actually win the third test despite all the DRS decisions that happened during the test. But, the bad light and the terrible English weather got in the way and the 3rd test ended in a draw. Let’s hope the boys don’t give up and win the next 2 tests over there, so they have some confidence coming into Ashes series down here later in the year.
Finally to the AFL and there were a few interesting results over the weekend. North Melbourne took on Geelong on Friday night and everyone would have thought that the Cats would have come away with a win, but the Roos held their nerve and came away with an impressive 10-point win. And in another interesting match, the Tigers came away with an impressive win over the ladder leaders Hawthorn. The Tigers are looking great as they are set to make their first finals appearance in 12 years. And let’s just take the time to congratulate Greater Western Sydney on their first win for the season, sure it was against Melbourne, but hey a wins a win.
